Manuscript Collection
The manuscript catalogue includes all the major collections relating to Wordsworth, his contemporaries and family: in total some 29,000 items. The writings of Wordsworth, Dorothy Wordsworth, Coleridge and others are included here, but are available for a more detailed search in the 'verse and prose section'. Verse and prose manuscripts
The Trust's collection of verse and prose manuscripts, comprises the work of William Wordsworth, Dorothy Wordsworth and other members of the family. They consist of notebooks and loose sheets, as well as Wordsworth's poetry, there is also his prose work and Dorothy Wordsworth's journals. For each poem or prose work, a record has been created to make searching the collection as easy as possible. A considerable amount of the information about the poems within these manuscripts comes from 'The Cornell Wordsworth' a series of detailed books on Wordsworth's poetry from the working manuscript to publication. The verse collection will be updated with more details at regular intervals. Cornell will be publishing a new volume on 'The Excursion' in 2004/5, records will be further updated after this publication. Printed books and pamphlets
The collection of books comprises lifetime editions of Wordsworth and the major Romantic and c19th authors; editions owned and annotated by Wordsworth, Coleridge and others, c19th and c20th textual and critical editions, plus a major collection of Lake District guides, directories and historical works. Illustrations are included in the Fine art file. The catalogue now includes the recently acquired major collection of early Romantic editions acquired with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund.
