Grasmere (stated by donor, see history file)
1825-1827

painting (oil on card)

This painting depicts a scene in Grasmere in the Lake District where William Wordsworth wrote much of his most influential poetry. George Beaumont met Wordsworth through their mutual friend Samuel Taylor Coleridge in 1803. The Wordsworths were keen to share their love for Grasmere and the surrounding area with the George Beaumont and his family. This small painting is on the other side of an invitation to Sir George Beaumont, from the Royal Academy, to attend the Royal Academy anniversary dinner, invite dated 12 April 1825.
