Moving Beyond Cornell
This site relies heavily upon the excellent scholarship undertaken by earlier Cornell editions without which it would not be possible. We would recommend the use of it alongside the relevant Cornell edition for each text. However, the site is also able to move beyond those editions in various ways by means of the electronic medium. It provides:
-
Excellent quality colour photography of the manuscript pages with transcriptions. Full page by page photographs, which this site provides, are not given in the Cornell edition for MS D.
-
Search facilities across MSS A, R and B for Home at Grasmere and for MS JJ, The Prelude. [Page by page searches; thematic searches in the MS B reading text; line by line searches where text has been encoded]
-
The creation of topic maps and other means of representing data from the search facilities. [Some of these search elements are still under development]
-
A much larger and more accessible interpretative framework unrestricted by the cost of book production and allowing for a range of audiences.
-
A "Turning the Pages" version of key manuscripts.
-
Short films on location relating to the site.
