Hutchinson, Sara (1775-1835). - Letter, from Keswick, to Edward Quillinan (1791-1851), at Lee Priory, Nr Wingham, Kent, dated 15 March 1827. WLL / Hutchinson, Sara / 2 / 123a. <1827>

Keswick

March 15th.

My dear Friend

I hope you are either still at Oporto or safely returned and snugly seated with your Darlings at Lee Priory - for the stormy winds have blown terrifically here for the whole of the last fortnight - and this is about the time you specified for your return. The day on which your Letter reached Rydal I had forwarded to you a supply of winter stockings by Miss Dowling, & they were left for you in Town - at her Brothers in Palsgrave Place - somewhere about Temple Bar - so when you are in Town you will find them there, if you think them worth the trouble of enquiring after. We have not sent off your Effects from Rydal - & I write now to beg that you will inform us, without delay, of your return - that they may be forwarded immediately - as we thought it hazardous to leave them in a warehouse for an indefinite time - and you may receive them in 10 days after we know that you are ready to receive them.

I write in great haste - & not knowing when you may read this I have not patience to enter into particulars - but I must say that we are all sorry that you are going to fash yourself with business, & to coop the Darlings up in Town - but if so we wish you all possible success - I have been here a fortnight

Poor Dora has been confined to her room almost all the winter - but she is, thank God convalescent - & is, as she has always been, in excellent spirits - but we have been all most anxious about her. Edith was her companion for 2 months - and a kind & cheerful one she has been - As soon as the weather will permit - or rather when the spring is further advanced - my sister intends going from home with Dora for change of air - it is not quite settled whither - but probably into Herefordshire - my friends there are all well - Mrs. H. has a nice Baby - Mr. M. talks of being in Town soon - You will hear of him in Budge Row - This day brought me a Letter from Mrs. M. (the Ephesian matron) announcing her hopes of "mutual happiness" with a Dr. Paris Dick to whom she is to be united next month!! - She is to be married at Cli Preston & live in Clifton, where her intended practices - she will thus have a chance of laying her bones beside her first husband - the reason why she chose C. as her residence

John W. has taken his degree & is at present in Town - You will hear of him at the Revd. Mr. Johnsons Central School Baldwins Gardens (an odd place as he says) if you should be very soon in Town - but

I do not suppose he will make a long stay - Miss Coleridge is also in Town - or at Hampstead Highgate with her Father - If you have any desire to call upon the Celestial blue - but she is engaged to her Coz who wrote the "6 weeks in the West Indies -

All Friends at Rydal are well except poor Dora - Mr. Wordsworths eyes are quite eased. His Poems are going thro' the Press - to be published by Longman - They

We think if you have not a fancy for your own very copy of the [[?]] that you had best offer it to Tillbrook, & he buy you [[-?-]] another - which would save Carriage & the risk of accident to both of you - Kindest love from every body at R. to you & the Trotts - Pray write soon - for we are very desirous of news - God bless you & excuse this scrawl. Ever truly your Friend S.H. Remembrances to a Friends at Lee Priory
