Dorothy Wordsworth (1771-1855) ms, dwj Notebook of verse and prose by Dorothy Wordsworth (75 leaves). Contents include her journal for 14 May to 22 December 1800 and her copy of lines related to 'Complaint of a forsaken Indian Woman'. The entries in the book date between 1798 and 1800. Size 148mm x 95mm (hxw). The notebook originally had 96 leaves, but 21 have been torn out. At one end are stubs that show calculations, probably from the 1798-99 Germany trip. Following this are various epigraphs. At the other end are Dorothy's journal entries. This breaks off where her transcription of lines related to 'Complaint of a forsaken Indian Woman' begins. The journal starts at one end and covers 72 leaves. Starting from the other end are two leaves of epitaphs and then the poem. The epitaphs are: the epitaph of Josias (here called Tobias) Franklin and his wife; Benjamin Franklin's epitaph; the epitaph of Sir George Vane at the parish church of Long Newton, Durham, noted as being taken from [William] Hutchinson's 'History of Durham III'; and an 'Epitaph taken from the Parish Church-Yard of Marsk in the Count of York'.
