Daniel Daulby (1745/6-98) ; Thomas Chubbard (1738-1809) Album of Lake District Views [invalid month: c] 1796-8 album (prints and watercolours) Ten drawings, largely the work of Daniel Daulby and Thomas Chubbard: they cover the whole of the Lake District as well as some parts of Northern Wales. Most of the drawings are coloured, but a few are left in pencil form. There is bound at the front of the volume a complete copy of Philemon Holland's Select Views of the Lakes, Liverpool, 1792, a work dedicated on the title-page to Daniel Daulby himself; it contains as the last plate (numbered 22 in the index) 'Ulswater from Styboar Crag', which has never been recorded elsewhere, and probably never published. The volume also contains two sets of prints: first, four of John Rathbone's engravings of the Lakes, 1792-4, engraved by J. Hassell and published by W. Richardson of Leicester Square ,1794; and, second, 16 prints by John 'Warwick' Smith and John Emes, engraved by S. Alken and C. Apostool. This last series was devised in a size and format so that it could be bound up with Thomas West's Guide to the Lakes. Provenance: Purchase, with the generous support of the Art Fund and the W.W.
