Wordsworth, Dora (1804-1847)

Dora was the daughter of the poet William Wordsworth and his wife Mary. She was of a lively disposition, despite frequent ill health, and was her father's favourite child. She is celebrated, along with her friends Sara Coleridge and Edith May Southey (daughters of the Lake Poets), in Wordsworth's poem 'The Triad'. Another important friendship was with the author Maria Jane Jewsbury. In 1841 Dora married family friend Edward Quillinan. As well as being a talented amateur artist she published a book ‘Journal of a Few Months' Residence in Portugal, and Glimpses of the South of Spain’, in 1847. Dora died in 1847 of tuberculosis.
