A Face Mask

The use of non- medical face masks by the general public during the initial phases of the pandemic was highly controversial. Different experts had differing views on their effectiveness.

As time went by and more was learnt about how the Covid-19 virus was transmitted, although the scientific evidence for their benefit in prevention of infection was limited, eventually the advice was given that in some indoor settings they should be worn by the public.
It was stressed however that they should be used correctly and washed correctly, and in no way were they a substitute for social distancing measures and the regular hand washing advice previously given.
