The windows are open but not a sound other than the occasional bleat of a lamb or bird singing. Usually a delight to watch the children playing in the playground, their laughter floating through the air. No queue at the bus stop, empty buses driving past. No visitors braving the delights of the open top bus whatever the weather.
The cafe has no customers enjoying the Lake District views and gossiping over a cup of tea. The pavements quiet. No tour guides with umbrella raised leading their snaking group of tourists to the gingerbread shop. No happy shoppers swinging their carrier bags of souvenirs. The shops are shut. Even locals conspicuous by their absence not visiting the Post Office. The view, a view of Covid-19 2020.
